NACO was formed in March 2011 when members of the Queensland based Motion Picture Exhibitors’ Association of Queensland voted to extend its membership to a national basis, and to reflect the new status, also agreed to change the name to the National Association of Cinema Operators-Australasia.

As a reflection of the national status, the Board now incorporates senior executive members from both major national operators as well as independent cinema operators, and from each state of Australia.

Then Chairman, Peter Beattie, commented at the launch – “Industry associations such as this one, play a vital role in the system of government in this country, allowing governments to sound out initiatives and allowing an industry to have one voice in approaches to government.”
